San Marco is the central area of Venice with San Marco Square being the central feature. Dorsoduro is located on the peninsula across the Grand Canal from San Marco to the south. Northwest of San Marco one finds the neighborhoods of San Polo & Santa Croce. Castello is located to the east of San Marco. Cannaregio is the northern most district of the island where one finds the main train station.
